#MeetMTA: Lori Flicek, Accounting Manager

Lori Flicek

The Miller Tanner difference is our people. That’s why we want to introduce you to our team of superstars that brings our corporate meetings and events to life for our clients. Today, we introduce you to Lori Flicek, Accounting Manager at Miller Tanner. Lori is a jack-of-all-trades and master of many in our Finance Department.

Meet Lori

Tell us about your current role with Miller Tanner – what do you do as Accounting Manager? What are your primary responsibilities?
I do so many different things in this role. I do the international payroll, all payroll taxes, bank reconciliations, AV/GT work orders, travel memos, assign and manage credit cards for air, manage hotel deposit log and payments, download all credit card statements for coding, approve wires for vendors and reimbursements, manage credit cards for travel alerts, hotel commission invoices, VAT hotel bills for the client, review and QC of transparency reporting, plus I back up many people in our department.

How long have you been with Miller Tanner? I have been with MTA since February 2009.

What did you do before joining MTA?
I helped open a family Hallmark business (yes, greeting cards and gifts) right after high school. At age 23, I took over ownership and managed it for the next 20 years by myself. I had lots of on-the-job training.

What do you feel are the most fulfilling aspects of your job?
I work with some of the best people. Most of us are overachievers, which is what makes this company so successful. It is a joy to log in every morning. I love how for the most part, I can plan my day. Of course, sometimes deadlines and other things pop up, but that is to be expected.

You’re based in Tennessee. If you were taking someone on a Tennessee tour, what are the must-sees?
Some of the must-sees would be downtown Nashville, hitting all the honky tonks. I would also recommend the Jack Daniels tour in Lynchburg and of course eating lunch at Miss Mary Bobo’s. It is really amazing.

workshop

You recently attended the MTA Workshop. What was your favorite aspect of this year’s event? What do you personally enjoy most about this Workshop?
For me, what I love the most is bringing the whole team together. I truly enjoy getting to see everyone even if it is only once a year. I think my favorite part of this year’s Workshop was the meal area with the couches, chairs, and games for us to play. It created a very relaxed atmosphere.

What do you do for fun?
I love to spend free time at the pool or on the lake. I am a sun goddess at heart. I finally retired from wakeboarding and slalom skiing, but enjoy teaching my son and his friends. I like spending time with friends and eating dinner out.

In your opinion, what makes Miller Tanner stand out most as a meeting planning company?
I think we stand out because we are continually changing and updating our processes, equipment, and performance which has established us as an industry leader. We are always striving to do it better, faster, and more seamlessly. We try to anticipate the client’s needs before they know it themselves.
